Sherman’s music and performing persona spread over a broad range of influences. The mentorship of Chinese Master Flautist, Mr Zhan Yongming, and the Violinists of the Sui Family had provided a discipline to seriously engage in the practice of musical performance. This passion of music making found a contemporary relevance through the pedagogy of renowned drummer and teacher Mr Darren Moore during his tenure at Lasalle College of the Arts. It was then through the influence and guidance of Former 1st Assistant Conductor to the SBC Orchestra, Mr Tan Cheng Boo during his tenure at the Film & Media Studies, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Ocean Butterflies Chief-Producer Mr Zennon Goh that gave his training a holistic identity, enabling him to communicate music which is relevant to the people of the times. The versatility in his repertoire is a testament to his love and understanding of popular music, and how it can bridge people of different backgrounds and preferences. This is the core of his musical ideal, which is also the ultimate purpose and motivation for all his performances and pedagogical approaches.
